Mit Uttara
In Rājagaha. Als er sich zur Seite hingestellt hatte, sagte der Ortsgott Uttara in Gegenwart des Buddha diese Strophe auf:
„Dieses Leben, so kurz, eilt voran; zum Alter hingeführt, findet man keinen Schutz. Erkennt diese Gefahr im Tod und tut Gutes, das euch Freude bringt.“
„Dieses Leben, so kurz, eilt voran; zum Alter hingeführt, findet man keinen Schutz. Wenn er diese Gefahr im Tod erkennt, lässt ein Friedenssucher den Köder der Welt fallen.“
With Uttara
At Rājagaha. Standing to one side, the godling Uttara spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
“This life, so very short, is led onward. One led on to old age has no shelter. Seeing this peril in death, do good deeds that bring you joy.”
“This life, so very short, is led onward. One led on to old age has no shelter. Seeing this peril in death, a seeker of peace would drop the world’s bait.”
Uttarasutta
Rājagahanidānaṁ. Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho uttaro devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
“Upanīyati jīvitamappamāyu, Jarūpanītassa na santi tāṇā; Etaṁ bhayaṁ maraṇe pekkhamāno, Puññāni kayirātha sukhāvahānī”ti.
“Upanīyati jīvitamappamāyu, Jarūpanītassa na santi tāṇā; Etaṁ bhayaṁ maraṇe pekkhamāno, Lokāmisaṁ pajahe santipekkho”ti.
