Verocana der Titanenfürst
Bei Sāvatthī in Jetas Wäldchen.
Zu dieser Zeit nun hatte sich der Buddha für die Meditation des Tages zurückgezogen.
Da begaben sich Sakka der Götterfürst und Verocana der Titanenfürst zum Buddha und stellten sich jeder bei einem Türpfosten auf. Und Verocana sagte in Gegenwart des Buddha diese Strophe auf:
„Ein Mann soll sich Mühe geben, bis er sein Ziel erreicht hat. Ein Ziel ist eine Zierde, wenn es erreicht ist: Das ist Verocanas Wort!“
„Ein Mann soll sich Mühe geben, bis er sein Ziel erreicht hat. Für das Ziel, das eine Zierde ist, wenn es erreicht ist, findet man nichts Besseres als Geduld.“
„Alle Lebewesen sind in Not, wie es ihnen in jedem Fall zusteht. Aber so ist auch Arbeit im Joch die höchste Wertsache für alle lebenden Geschöpfe. Ein Ziel ist eine Zierde, wenn es erreicht ist: Das ist Verocanas Wort!“
„Alle Lebewesen sind in Not, wie es ihnen in jedem Fall zusteht. Aber wenn auch Arbeit im Joch die höchste Wertsache für alle lebenden Geschöpfe ist, so findet man für das Ziel, das eine Zierde ist, wenn es erreicht ist, doch nichts Besseres als Geduld.“
Verocana, Lord of Titans

Now at that time the Buddha had gone into retreat for the day’s meditation.
Then Sakka, lord of gods, and Verocana, lord of titans, approached the Buddha and stationed themselves one by each door-post. Then Verocana spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
“A man should make an effort until his goal is accomplished. A goal is splendid when accomplished— this is the word of Verocana!”
“A man should make an effort until his goal is accomplished. For the goal that’s splendid when accomplished, naught better than patience is found.”
“All beings are in need, as they deserve in each case. But even so, harnessed work is the highest thing of value for all living creatures. A goal is splendid when accomplished— this is the word of Verocana!”
“All beings are in need, as they deserve in each case. But rather than harnessed work being the highest thing of value for all living creatures, for the goal that’s splendid when accomplished, naught better than patience is found.”
Verocanaasurindasutta
Sāvatthiyaṁ jetavane.
Tena kho pana samayena bhagavā divāvihāragato hoti paṭisallīno.
Atha kho sakko ca devānamindo verocano ca asurindo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamiṁsu; upasaṅkamitvā paccekaṁ dvārabāhaṁ nissāya aṭṭhaṁsu. Atha kho verocano asurindo bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
“Vāyametheva puriso, yāva atthassa nipphadā; Nipphannasobhano attho, verocanavaco idan”ti.
“Vāyametheva puriso, yāva atthassa nipphadā; Nipphannasobhano attho, khantyā bhiyyo na vijjatī”ti.
“Sabbe sattā atthajātā, tattha tattha yathārahaṁ; Saṁyogaparamā tveva, sambhogā sabbapāṇinaṁ; Nipphannasobhano attho, verocanavaco idan”ti.
“Sabbe sattā atthajātā, tattha tattha yathārahaṁ; Saṁyogaparamā tveva, sambhogā sabbapāṇinaṁ; Nipphannasobhano attho, khantyā bhiyyo na vijjatī”ti.
