Ein Stock
Daṇḍasutta
So habe ich es gehört: Einmal hielt sich der Buddha bei Sāvatthī in Jetas Wäldchen auf, dem Kloster des Anāthapiṇḍika. Zu dieser Zeit schlugen zwischen Sāvatthī und Jetas Wäldchen ein paar Jungen eine Schlange mit einem Stock. Da kleidete der Buddha sich am Morgen an, nahm Schale und Robe und betrat Sāvatthī zum Almosengang. Er sah, wie die Jungen die Schlange schlugen.
Und da er diese Sache verstand, drückte der Buddha bei dieser Gelegenheit dieses innige Gefühl aus:
„Die Geschöpfe lieben Glück; wenn ihr ihnen auf der Suche nach eigenem Glück mit einem Stock wehtut, werdet ihr nach dem Tod kein Glück finden.
Die Geschöpfe lieben Glück; wenn ihr ihnen auf der Suche nach eigenem Glück nicht mit einem Stock wehtut, werdet ihr nach dem Tod Glück finden.“
So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery. Now at that time, between Sāvatthī and the Jeta Grove, several boys were hitting a snake with a stick. Then the Buddha robed up in the morning and, taking his bowl and robe, entered Sāvatthī for alms. He saw the boys hitting the snake.
Then, understanding this matter, on that occasion the Buddha expressed this heartfelt sentiment:
“Creatures love happiness, so if you harm them with a stick in search of your own happiness, after death you’ll find no happiness.
Creatures love happiness, so if you don’t harm them with a stick in search of your own happiness, after death you will find happiness.”
Evaṁ me sutaṁ— ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme. Tena kho pana samayena sambahulā kumārakā antarā ca sāvatthiṁ antarā ca jetavanaṁ ahiṁ daṇḍena hananti. Atha kho bhagavā pubbaṇhasamayaṁ nivāsetvā pattacīvaramādāya sāvatthiṁ piṇḍāya pāvisi. Addasā kho bhagavā sambahule kumārake antarā ca sāvatthiṁ antarā ca jetavanaṁ ahiṁ daṇḍena hanante.
Atha kho bhagavā etamatthaṁ viditvā tāyaṁ velāyaṁ imaṁ udānaṁ udānesi:
“Sukhakāmāni bhūtāni, yo daṇḍena vihiṁsati; Attano sukhamesāno, pecca so na labhate sukhaṁ.
Sukhakāmāni bhūtāni, yo daṇḍena na hiṁsati; Attano sukhamesāno, pecca so labhate sukhan”ti.
