Sujātā

Ich war mit Juwelen geschmückt und herausgeputzt, trug Kränze und war mit Sandelholzduft besprengt, über und über war ich mit Schmuck behängt und von meinen Zofen umgeben.

Mit Speisen und Getränken, nicht wenig an Esswaren und Leckereien, verließ ich mein Haus und begab mich in den Park.

Dort vergnügte und belustigte ich mich, und dann, auf dem Heimweg, sah ich eine Mönchshütte. Da betrat ich das Añjana-Wäldchen bei Sāketa.

Ich sah das Licht der Welt, erwies meine Ehrerbietung und setzte mich. Aus Anteilnahme lehrte der Klaräugige mich den Dhamma.

Als ich den großen Seher gehört hatte, drang ich zur Wahrheit durch. Eben da fand ich den unbefleckten Dhamma, den Zustand, der frei vom Tod ist.

Als ich dann die wahre Lehre verstanden hatte, zog ich fort ins hauslose Leben. Das dreifache Wissen habe ich verwirklicht, das Geheiß des Buddha war nicht vergebens.

Sujātā

I was adorned with jewelry and all dressed up, with garlands, and sandalwood makeup piled on, all covered over with decorations, and surrounded by my maids.

Taking food and drink, staples and dainties in no small amount, I left my house and took myself to the park.

I enjoyed myself there and played about, and then, returning to my own house, I saw a monastic dwelling, and so I entered the Añjana wood at Sāketa.

Seeing the light of the world, I paid homage and sat down. Out of compassion the Clear-eyed One taught me the Dhamma.

When I heard the great seer, I penetrated the truth. Right there I found the stainless Dhamma, the state free of death.

Then, having understood the true teaching, I went forth to homelessness. I’ve attained the three knowledges; the Buddha’s bidding was not in vain.

Sujātātherīgāthā

“Alaṅkatā suvasanā, mālinī candanokkhitā; Sabbābharaṇasañchannā, dāsīgaṇapurakkhatā.

Annaṁ pānañca ādāya, khajjaṁ bhojjaṁ anappakaṁ; Gehato nikkhamitvāna, uyyānamabhihārayiṁ.

Tattha ramitvā kīḷitvā, āgacchantī sakaṁ gharaṁ; Vihāraṁ daṭṭhuṁ pāvisiṁ, sākete añjanaṁ vanaṁ.

Disvāna lokapajjotaṁ, vanditvāna upāvisiṁ; So me dhammamadesesi, anukampāya cakkhumā.

Sutvā ca kho mahesissa, saccaṁ sampaṭivijjhahaṁ; Tattheva virajaṁ dhammaṁ, phusayiṁ amataṁ padaṁ.

Tato viññātasaddhammā, pabbajiṁ anagāriyaṁ; Tisso vijjā anuppattā, amoghaṁ buddhasāsanan”ti.
