1. Das erste Kapitel

Mein Mentor half mir, zu lernen, und hoffte, ich würde diese Lehren üben. Indem ich nach dem strebte, das frei vom Tod ist, tat ich, was zu tun war.

Ich habe den Dhamma verwirklicht, kenne ihn aus eigener Erfahrung, nicht vom Hörensagen. Mit geläutertem Erkennen, frei von Zweifel, erkläre ich in deiner Gegenwart:

Ich kenne meine früheren Leben, meine Hellsichtigkeit ist geläutert, mein eigenes wahres Ziel habe ich erreicht und die Anleitung des Buddha erfüllt.

Indem ich mich beflissen schulte, lernte ich deine Lehre gut. Alle meine Befleckungen sind aufgelöst; künftige Leben wird es jetzt nicht mehr geben.

Du hast mich in edlen Gelübden unterwiesen, voller Anteilnahme halfst du mir. Deine Anleitung war nicht umsonst: Ich, dein Zögling, bin vollständig geschult.

Chapter One

Sumana (1st)

My mentor helped me to learn, hoping I would practice those teachings. Aspiring to freedom from death, I’ve done what had to be done.

I’ve realized the Dhamma, witnessing it for myself, not based on hearsay. With purified knowledge, free of doubt, I declare it in your presence.

I know my past lives, my clairvoyance is purified, I’ve realized my heart’s goal, and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.

Being diligent in the training, I learned your teachings well. All my defilements are ended; now there’ll be no more future lives.

You advised me in noble observances; sympathetic, you helped teach me. Your instruction was not in vain— I, your pupil, am fully trained.

Sumanattheragāthā

“Yaṁ patthayāno dhammesu, upajjhāyo anuggahi; Amataṁ abhikaṅkhantaṁ, kataṁ kattabbakaṁ mayā.

Anuppatto sacchikato, sayaṁ dhammo anītiho; Visuddhañāṇo nikkaṅkho, byākaromi tavantike.

Pubbenivāsaṁ jānāmi, dibbacakkhu visodhitaṁ; Sadattho me anuppatto, kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ.

Appamattassa me sikkhā, sussutā tava sāsane; Sabbe me āsavā khīṇā, natthi dāni punabbhavo.

Anusāsi maṁ ariyavatā, Anukampi anuggahi; Amogho tuyhamovādo, Antevāsimhi sikkhito”ti.
