Die Fragen des Vedenstudenten Mogharāja

„Zweimal habe ich den Sakyer gefragt“, sagte der Ehrwürdige Mogharāja, „doch du hast mir nicht geantwortet, du Klaräugiger. Ich habe gehört, dass der himmlische Seher antwortet, wenn er zum dritten Mal gefragt wird.

Im Hinblick auf diese und jene Welt und auf die Brahmāwelt mit ihren Göttern bin ich mit der Ansicht des ruhmreichen Gotama nicht vertraut.

So bin ich gekommen, mit einer Frage an ihn, der vortrefflich sieht, zu suchen. Wie betrachtest du die Welt, sodass der König des Todes dich nicht sehen wird?“

„Betrachte die Welt als leer, Mogharāja, sei stets achtsam. Wenn du den Glauben an ein Selbst ausgerottet hast, kannst du über den Tod hinausgehen. So betrachtest du die Welt, sodass der König des Todes dich nicht sehen wird.“

“Twice I have asked the Sakyan,” said Venerable Mogharāja, “but you haven’t answered me, O Clear-eyed One. I have heard that the divine seer answers when questioned a third time.

Regarding this world, the other world, and the realm of divinity with its gods, I’m not familiar with the view of the renowned Gotama.

So I have come seeking with a question for the one of excellent vision. How to look upon the world so the King of Death won’t see you?”

“Look upon the world as empty, Mogharāja, ever mindful. Having uprooted the theory of self, you may thus cross over death. That’s how to look upon the world so the King of Death won’t see you.”

“Dvāhaṁ sakkaṁ apucchissaṁ, (iccāyasmā mogharājā) Na me byākāsi cakkhumā; Yāvatatiyañca devīsi, Byākarotīti me sutaṁ.

Ayaṁ loko paro loko, brahmaloko sadevako; Diṭṭhiṁ te nābhijānāti, gotamassa yasassino.

Evaṁ abhikkantadassāviṁ, atthi pañhena āgamaṁ; Kathaṁ lokaṁ avekkhantaṁ, maccurājā na passati”.

“Suññato lokaṁ avekkhassu, Mogharāja sadā sato; Attānudiṭṭhiṁ ūhacca, Evaṁ maccutaro siyā; Evaṁ lokaṁ avekkhantaṁ, Maccurājā na passatī”ti.
