Heuchelei und Schmeichelei (1)
Das wurde vom Buddha, dem Vollendeten, gesagt; das habe ich gehört:
„Mönche und Nonnen, dieses geistliche Leben führt man nicht, um Menschen zu betrügen oder ihnen zu schmeicheln, nicht für Besitz, Ehre oder Beliebtheit, nicht, um Debatten zu gewinnen oder mit dem Gedanken: ‚Dass doch die Leute mich kennen!‘ Dieses geistliche Leben führt man um des Zügelns und des Aufgebens willen.“
Der Buddha sprach diese Sache. Dazu wird gesagt:
„Nicht aus Tradition lehrte der Buddha das geistliche Leben, sondern um des Zügelns und des Aufgebens willen und weil es im Erlöschen gipfelt.
Das ist der Pfad, dem große Geister folgen, die großen Seher. Wer ihn übt wie vom Buddha gelehrt und das Geheiß des Lehrers befolgt, macht dem Leiden ein Ende.“
Auch das ist eine Sache, die vom Gesegneten gesprochen wurde: Das habe ich gehört.
Chapter One
Fawning and Flattery
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
“Mendicants, this spiritual life is not lived for the sake of fawning or flattering people, nor for the benefit of possessions, honor, or popularity, nor thinking, ‘So let people know about me!’ This spiritual life is lived for the sake of restraint and giving up.”
The Buddha spoke this matter. On this it is said:
“The Buddha taught the spiritual life not because of tradition, but for the sake of restraint and giving up, and because it culminates in extinguishment.
This is the path followed by the great souls, the great seers. Those who practice it as it was taught by the Buddha doing the teacher’s bidding, make an end of suffering.”
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
Paṭhamavagga
Paṭhamajananakuhanasutta
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
“Nayidaṁ, bhikkhave, brahmacariyaṁ vussati janakuhanatthaṁ, na janalapanatthaṁ, na lābhasakkārasilokānisaṁsatthaṁ, na ‘iti maṁ jano jānātū’ti. Atha kho idaṁ, bhikkhave, brahmacariyaṁ vussati saṁvaratthañceva pahānatthañcā”ti.
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
“Saṁvaratthaṁ pahānatthaṁ, brahmacariyaṁ anītihaṁ; Adesayi so bhagavā, nibbānogadhagāminaṁ.
Esa maggo mahattehi, anuyāto mahesibhi; Ye ye taṁ paṭipajjanti, yathā buddhena desitaṁ; Dukkhassantaṁ karissanti, satthusāsanakārino”ti.
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
