1. Das Kapitel über das Opfer der Lehre des Brahmanen
Wie Verlangen entsteht
Das wurde vom Buddha, dem Vollendeten, gesagt; das habe ich gehört:
„Mönche und Nonnen, es gibt vier Dinge, die Verlangen in einem Mönch entstehen lassen. Welche vier? Verlangen entsteht um einer Robe willen, um des Almosens willen, um einer Unterkunft willen oder um der Wiedergeburt in diesem oder jenem Zustand willen. Das sind die vier Dinge, die Verlangen in einem Mönch entstehen lassen.“
Der Buddha sprach diese Sache. Dazu wird gesagt:
„Verlangen ist eines Menschen Begleiter bei diesem langen Umherwandern. Von dieser Daseinsform geht er zu einer anderen, doch entkommt er dem Umherwandern nicht.
Wenn er diese Gefahr erkennt, dass Leiden durch Verlangen zustande kommt, wandert ein Mönch achtsam, ohne Verlangen, von Ergreifen frei.“
Auch das ist eine Sache, die vom Gesegneten gesprochen wurde: Das habe ich gehört.
The Chapter on the Brahmin’s Offering of the Teaching
The Arising of Craving
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
“Mendicants, there are four things that give rise to craving in a mendicant. What four? For the sake of robes, almsfood, lodgings, or rebirth in this or that state. These are the four things that give rise to craving in a mendicant.”
The Buddha spoke this matter. On this it is said:
“Craving is a person’s partner as they transmigrate on this long journey. They go from this state to another, but don’t escape transmigration.
Knowing this danger, that craving is the cause of suffering— rid of craving, free of grasping, a mendicant would wander mindful.”
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
Brāhmaṇadhammayāgavagga
Taṇhuppādasutta
Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
“Cattārome, bhikkhave, taṇhuppādā, yattha bhikkhuno taṇhā uppajjamānā uppajjati. Katame cattāro? Cīvarahetu vā, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno taṇhā uppajjamānā uppajjati; piṇḍapātahetu vā, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno taṇhā uppajjamānā uppajjati; senāsanahetu vā, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno taṇhā uppajjamānā uppajjati; itibhavābhavahetu vā, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno taṇhā uppajjamānā uppajjati. Ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro taṇhuppādā yattha bhikkhuno taṇhā uppajjamānā uppajjatī”ti.
Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
“Taṇhādutiyo puriso, dīghamaddhāna saṁsaraṁ; Itthabhāvaññathābhāvaṁ, saṁsaraṁ nātivattati.
Etamādīnavaṁ ñatvā, taṇhaṁ dukkhassa sambhavaṁ; Vītataṇho anādāno, sato bhikkhu paribbaje”ti.
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
