Das Verhalten des Prinzen Candana

„Und wiederum, als ich der echte Sohn des einen Königs war in Pupphavatī, der Blumenstadt, da wurde ich Prinz Canda, Mond, genannt.

Nachdem ich von der Opferung erlöst war, floh ich den eingefriedeten Opferplatz. Indem ich ein Gefühl der Dringlichkeit erweckte, brachte ich ein großes Opfer dar.

Ich trank nicht und aß nicht, genoss fünf oder sechs Tage lang keinerlei Speise und opferte zuerst einem würdigen Empfänger.

Wie ein Händler, der ein Warenlager errichtet hätte: Er brächte diese Waren dorthin, wo sie viel Gewinn einbrächten.

So ist es auch sehr fruchtbar, anderen selbst das zu geben, was man selbst benutzt hat. Darum vervielfältigt sich hundertfach, was anderen zu geben ist.

Da ich den Grund dafür kannte, gab ich ein Leben nach dem andern Spenden. Ich ließ mit dem Geben nie nach, um das Erwachen zu erlangen.“

Prince Candana’s Conduct

“Then again when I was the true-born son of the One King in the city of flowers, Pupphavatī, I was called Prince Canda, the Moon.

Then, released from being sacrificed, I fled the sacrificial enclosure. Giving rise to a sense of urgency, I performed a great offering.

I did not drink, I did not eat, I did not enjoy any food for five or six days with having first offering to a worthy recipient.

Suppose there was a merchant who had made a store of goods. They would take those goods to where they could make a large profit.

So too, even giving what one has used oneself to others is very fruitful. That is why what is to be given to others multiplies a hundredfold.

Knowing the reason for this, I gave gifts in life after life. I never relented in giving for the attainment of awakening.”

Candakumāracariya

“Punāparaṁ yadā homi, ekarājassa atrajo; Nagare pupphavatiyā, kumāro candasavhayo.

Tadāhaṁ yajanā mutto, nikkhanto yaññavāṭato; Saṁvegaṁ janayitvāna, mahādānaṁ pavattayiṁ.

Nāhaṁ pivāmi khādāmi, napi bhuñjāmi bhojanaṁ; Dakkhiṇeyye adatvāna, api chappañcarattiyo.

Yathāpi vāṇijo nāma, Katvāna bhaṇḍasañcayaṁ; Yattha lābho mahā hoti, Tattha taṁ harati bhaṇḍakaṁ.

Tatheva sakabhuttāpi, pare dinnaṁ mahapphalaṁ; Tasmā parassa dātabbaṁ, satabhāgo bhavissati.

Etamatthavasaṁ ñatvā, demi dānaṁ bhavābhave; Na paṭikkamāmi dānato, sambodhimanupattiyā”ti.
